Major General Lor Sokha, the provincial commissioner of Mondulkiri, confirmed during a phone interview on April 18 that the marijuana plantation covered an area of approximately one hectare, and the plants had been growing for three to four months without being harvested. He explained that it typically takes six to eight months for marijuana plants to be ready for harvest. "We have not yet cracked down on exports," he stated.
According to the Mondulkiri Provincial Police's Facebook page, over 10,000 marijuana plants were confiscated and destroyed by the authorities. The land used for cultivation was rented by Vietnamese individuals from Cambodian locals. The two Vietnamese men who were arrested are aged 32 and 27, respectively.
Lor Sokha revealed in a recent media interview that the two Vietnamese nationals have been sent to court, and law enforcement agencies are actively pursuing the mastermind behind the marijuana cultivation operation.
